Early morning at the beach

I photographed this beautiful family a few months ago at my favourite beach in Portland. Rain was forecast for the morning, but we were lucky enough to just have a thick cloud cover and even a little bit of sun at the end of the session - which despite it seeming unfavourable to a lot of people, is perfect conditions for photography. Why? Because it doesnโ€™t create any harsh shadows in everyoneโ€™s faces, which is an issue with direct sunlight especially in the middle of the day.

So that morning was definitely a yay yay, but not only weather-wise. My photography aims for the in between moments, and even though I know for most people having their photo taken is an awkward situation, I try to do my best to make them feel as if the camera isnโ€™t there. The main key to this is to have everyone be fully present in the moment, interacting with each other and pretty much just thinking โ€˜This is a morning like every other one with my family on the beachโ€™. And what can I say - this little fambam didnโ€™t even need many prompts, they were naturals! PLUS they had their doggo with them, which in itself is a very hard to beat asset for authentic photos and genuine smiles.

But enough talking, feel free to dive into this beautiful session, which I still canโ€™t get enough of looking at. x
