Early morning at the beach
I photographed this beautiful family a few months ago at my favourite beach in Portland. Rain was forecast for the morning, but we were lucky enough to just have a thick cloud cover and even a little bit of sun at the end of the session - which despite it seeming unfavourable to a lot of people, is perfect conditions for photography. Why? Because it doesn’t create any harsh shadows in everyone’s faces, which is an issue with direct sunlight especially in the middle of the day.
So that morning was definitely a yay yay, but not only weather-wise. My photography aims for the in between moments, and even though I know for most people having their photo taken is an awkward situation, I try to do my best to make them feel as if the camera isn’t there. The main key to this is to have everyone be fully present in the moment, interacting with each other and pretty much just thinking ‘This is a morning like every other one with my family on the beach’. And what can I say - this little fambam didn’t even need many prompts, they were naturals! PLUS they had their doggo with them, which in itself is a very hard to beat asset for authentic photos and genuine smiles.
But enough talking, feel free to dive into this beautiful session, which I still can’t get enough of looking at. x
